cLASS iNFORMATION
Welcome to 3rd grade. Below I have listed and explained some policies and procedures in our classroom. Being aware of these policies and procedures will help you and your child have a great school year.
School Hours & Absences
School begins each day at 7:50am. Students can arrive each day at 7:30am, report to the cafeteria, and wait for the 7:50am. bell to enter the classroom. School ends each day at 2:30pm. If you are picking your child up early from school, you will need to go through the front office. Early checkouts must occur prior to 2pm. If your child has a change in transportation, please send in a written note or email me the morning of. If you have a change of dismissal once the school day starts, please contact the front office to let them know of the change. This is to ensure that I receive the information as some days we have tech issues, or I may not see your email once the day gets started.
Absences- Throughout the year, there will be times that your child may get sick, need to go to the doctors, etc. If your child is absent from school, please send me an email and send in a doctors' note needed to excuse the absence. Your child will be given an absent folder of work to make up. It needs to be turned in within the week. No work is given ahead of time for vacations. This is a school policy.
Behavior Plan
In order to maintain a productive learning environment, all students will participate in the classroom behavior plan. Students will receive a redirection and reminder of class/school rules the first time. If the student needs continual redirection during the day, it will be noted in their planner. If your student is consistently disruptive to the learning environment, I will email you directly to discuss their behavior.
At the end of the day your child’s behavior will be recorded in their planner that will be kept in his or her binder. Please review your child’s behavior daily. There is a small box in the corner of each day for you to initial after reviewing your child’s behavior for the day.
HOMEWORK POLICY
The expected nightly homework load for 3rd graders is 30-45 minutes. Refer to your child’s daily planner for their homework assignment. Students will bring homework assignments home in their Daily Folder. They will complete their homework and place it back in the “return” pocket for review the next day.
MATH – Students should practice basic addition, subtraction, and multiplication facts for quick recall. We will get started on “XtraMath” during the first two weeks. Look for more information on this program in your child’s Daily Folder!
READING – Students should read a “good fit” book for 30 minutes nightly.
SPELLING –Spelling will be integrated into our writing instruction.
SCIENCE & SOCIAL STUDIES -Students will have an occasional
at-home project.
PORTFOLIOS
All students will be working on a third-grade portfolio, which consists of short tests based on the standards third graders need to master. With the instruction they receive at school and the encouragement/support they will receive from home to do their very best, we believe that your child WILL grow academically and be successful.
Snacks & Birthdays
HEALTHY snacks (ie. fruit, veggies, cheese- please no candy or cookies) may be brought in each day if you wish. Also, we enjoy celebrating birthdays and you are welcome to drop a birthday treat for the class if you wish. Please email me to let me know when you will be dropping off the treats.
Classroom Communication
Each Friday, I will update our class website with skills and announcements for the upcoming week. I will send out an email each Friday as well letting you know when the website has been updated. I will also use the student's planner to communicate how their behavior was for the day or other issues, such as missing work, etc.. Please be sure to sign their planners each day.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have. I look forward to working with you and your 3rd grader. It is going to be a great year!
