Bike Safety
From February 6- March 3 students should bring their bike helmet on their P.E. day for bike safety. Student can also bring their own bikes to use for bike safety on their P.E. day. However, loaner bikes will be available for them to use if getting their bike to school is not feasible.
Valentine's Day
Students are welcome to bring in Valentine's to exchange with classmates if they choose to. There are 18 students in the class. We will be making a friendship snack (based off a book we have read) Each student is asked to bring in a small, sweet treat. We will mix all of the sweet treats together to create a snack mix of sorts. Examples of sweet treats could be cereal, small cookies, chocolate chips, little candies, small marshmallows. Please only send in store bought items.
New Reading Requirement
Moving forward, each student’s goal will be to read 4 books (2 chapter books / 2 non-fiction information books) on his/her Lexile level each nine weeks. To find the Lexile level of a book you can use the website hub.lexile.com/find-a-book/search

Reading Benchmark-
Word Study- Root word review, long and short /oo/ sound
Writing- Students will be writing a fictional narrative
Vocabulary- Use context clues to determine meaning of words and phrases. Use word relationships to determine meaning.

The Sun- Students will identify that the sun is a star that emits energy; some in the form of light. The sun can also heat objects and when the sun is not present heat can be lost.

We will be testing on the Regions of the United States on Monday.
Week 9- Regions of the USA: Students will identify the five regions of the USA and label each of the states within each region. Students will describe physical features of the USA.
States within the Regions
As we begin our regions unit students will be expected to identify each state within the region. Below is a link to a website that you child can use to help learn their states. www.sheppardsoftware.com/web_games.htm
Homework
Students' nightly homework assignments will generally consist of reading for 30 minutes, a lesson on iReady reading, a lesson in PENDA science, and a math practice page. Please see student planners for exact daily homework.
